Good news for the Ducks. He's going to get the most minutes out of any player in the Pac12.

Oregon also landed grad transfer Anthony Mathis from New Mexico. Averaged 14.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 41 percent from three-point range last season.

Oh so he was promised a starting spot?
The writer saying that he and Pritchard would be a good backcourt?
A bit premature to say, even though they mentioned him being insurance in case the freshmen don’t pan out.

Good for Oregon because that should make them better.

Probably a bit premature but if he is their starter he'll be a good one, but they still have a few spots to fill. It stinks the PAC 12 has fallen to the point we have to hope other teams start landing better players but it is what it is. Hopefully a few teams will challenge us and push us to be better come March.

Honestly egg,
I have no problem with us turning the PAC-12 into the WCC.
It will never happen because certain programs will have an inside track on prospects (OSU/UCLA/USC) to instantly boost their prestige.

Oh I hope not. The year we won it all I think we finished in the middle of a very good PAC-10 conference, which had seen UCLA win it all not long before us. Playing in a stronger conference makes us better come March. Gonzaga has been good in the WCC but they have one final four in Mark few's 20 years and mid major teams just don't win titles.

If we are being completely honest, Gonzaga has gone further in the tournament every year since our back-to-back Elite Eight exits in 2014 and 2015.

True, but they've gone further than just about everyone in that span - they've been to two sweet 16s, an elite 8 and the championship game in that time - and we hit a rough patch. But when was the last time a non-major conference team won it all? I still think a tougher conference prepares you better and hopefully this will be the year we bounce back and make a deep run.

The last mid-major?
That would be UNLV in the early 1990s right?
Let me fact check...yeah UNLV in 1990, unless you want to count Villanova in 2018 because technically the Big East isn’t a “Power 5” conference.

Yeah that was the team, I was lucky to see them play in the NCAA tournament at McKale back then, along with Mutombo and Georgetown. I think that was also the year Steve Smith hit a half court game winner for Michigan State to advance. Not saying it's impossible but it's still better for us I think if the PAC 12 is tougher than it has been.

And I'd count the Big East as a major conference even if they aren't Power 5 - Villanova, Marquette, Seton Hall, Creighton, Xavier are usually pretty good and Providence, Georgetown, St. John's and Butler aren't bad. last year ESPN had the Big East as the 5th best bball conference, ahead of the American and PAC 12. It's ESPN but still being ranked behind the American conference isn't good at all.

Hard to take anything from ESPN legitimately when it is clear they have a biased opinion against Arizona and a few other PAC-12 programs.
It doesn’t bother me though, some people will hate just cause.
Very easy to do when you don’t have to stand in front of the statement.
