Fact is that very few athletic depts actually run and operate in the black. Arizona did for many years but now find themselves in the red also trying to keep up with the Jones. Athletes want to play In the best facilities. School paid for. The best uniforms. The list goes on with this stuff. Now pay?  Arizona athletics is in debt. How can they pay athletes? We have this silly rules that we have to have balance, women's sport for every men's sport. If we were to pay FB and BB players we would also have to pay the other athletes. Everyone e knows Arizona Basketball makes money, but every other sport loses money. That includes FB!
In this case the Lady is right on in what she is saying. Prior to Greg B leading us into debt, our athletic dept ran a good budget. For the most part Basketball paid for everything else. The conference has not paid out what they said they would with the TV deal. They have limited Arizona Basketball from an independent deal with ESPN. The PAC has failed not only Arizona, but all of it's member schools and all of the fans that support them. Now consider that we are at the bottom of the big TV pay out deals and yes we are screwed. Thank you, you know who. That said, even with b oh her tv deals the fact is most schools are spending more than they bring in through athletics.
Enough of that, but I miss Livengood's management when it comes to finances.

Right on.  I'm not a fan of Wisconsin after recent March events, but they are on the right track.

There's no point in being forced to pay amateurs that "could" get paid overseas for being athletes.  If they want a free ride (and tutoring) to get a degree and have a fun time on campus...go to college & live like everybody else (with Ramen & Pizza).

If parents 18-year old athletes don't want their kids to be exploited for money in order for athletic departments to try and break even...pull a LaVar Ball and send them to Europe for a 6-figure salary.  If they play football, they can join the CFL, where there is no age limit.
