UofA PAC12 Conference schedule
« on: December 02, 2019, 01:29:41 PM »
Four games left to play before we host the scummies, a little early analysis

these pre-season tourneys shine a bright light on teams, for example Bermuda was a harbinger of things to come in conference games

after ASU, we go to the Oregon schools before hosting Utah and Colorado, then a 3-game road trip to Tempe Normal and the Washingtons

Arizona does not go to Utah and Colorado
Cal and Stanford don't come to McKale

we're not dominant, we're very good but we're vulnerable, we were unable to pull away from some teams that we outclassed talent-wise and we don't always play a full 40
so while I think we'll go 14-4 or better this year, it seems not outside of the bounds of reason to think that we could be at or below .500 early on

so the real stat guys and people with insight might have confidence, I think any time we go to McKale North we can lose, its just the nature of the rivalry that the Bobbies get up for us, for some reason they don't like us and its not completely out of the question that we could lose game 1

if we haven't lost before we host Oregon we'll be under a lot of pressure at home, the friendly crowd that surrounds Lute and Bobbi Court are a big advantage, but a highly ranmked hungry Duck squad could steal one in Tucson
and those pesky Beavers, seems like they are our favorite trap game
its possible we could sweep, but losing one seems possible also

Larry, he's a good coach and the Utes will give us their best shot
Colorado returns a lot of old buffaloes, they have been favored in some pre-season polls - I think they're not so good but who knows
again, maybe we sweep, maybe we lose one

then off to Tempe for the rematch

So I think we will win at least 4 of the first 6 (this team is capable of winning all 6!) but its also possible we are 3-3

and that's the best reason to get excited

We're not the one strong team in a crummy conference, some of these guys are capable of beating us

I was really excited about this year, great recruiting class and a chance to let the on-court stuff shine while the off-court stuff gets resolved

but after looking at the schedule this is gonna be exciting, nothing is certain and each game will be important

What do you think our PAC12 record will be and where do think we'll finish?

This deserved it's own response. Yes, he is awful. They all speak in platitudes (except for Walton, I don't even know what language he is speaking 1/2 the time) and cliche's but Crispin is literally picking the DUMBEST cliche's. He went on and on about how different the team was without Mannion...which is true of any team and their starting point guard... but we were building our first lead while Mannion was out....so what was happening was not consistent with what he was saying and he seemed oblivious to that point.

Weíre favored in very conference game except the away game against Oregon.  Iíd say thatís about right.  We lose two, three tops, conference games this year.

I wish you were right but I donít think the conference is particularly strong.  Colorado is over rated.  ASU will be lucky to reach .500 in conference.  Oregon and Washington are good.  Utah I think is better than people give them credit.

My two cents.

I like your 14-4....maybe 15-3....

I think we'll get surprised by someone (Oregon State, perhaps) and loose a game we shouldn't and we'll overcome some difficult situations on the road against a red hot team (like we did against UCLA with Simmons) and rise to the occasion when/if we are not favored.

Worry about Washington and Oregon - I'll be shocked if sweep either one or get swept by either one.

USC is scary - not consistent, but scary when they are playing well.

Being slightly better than average like Oregon State or UCLA or Colorado....I don't think they can touch us, unless its that one, rare off night and we played horribly.

I think everybody except Wazzu can be scary on a given night.

Since Arizona built up the biggest basketball reputation in the West, the entire Pac-12 gives us their best effort on every night.

I still think we lose 4-5 conference games, which should still be enough to at least tie for the regular season title.  The conference is balanced, which should be an advantage because we finally get credit for playing decent opponents.

If the Cats can finally win in Eugene in our first conf road game on Jan 9 that will be the barometer, imo, of how good our chances are for winning the Pac title. Last time miller won there was when TJ went off for 20p - so being strong at the point (hello Nico!), this year gives AZ the edge to win. And yes, I think he's better than Pritchard.

I say we go 16-2 if we win vs Dana's Duckies.

I think it's reasonable to believe we will lose 4 in conference.  Our suspect free throw shooting is a concern and there won't be very many gimmee games.

I assume you are talking about PAC-12 play and not our over-all record. We positively will never go below or at .500 the whole season: assu W, @UO  L,  @OSU...W...., Utah..W,  COLO...W,  @assu..W..that would put us at 4-1...where can you possibly see us losing enough games to get us at or below .500?? Not going to happen this year. We will not lose to assu this year, as I am sure Lee and Jeter will remind the newbies how it felt to lose to those assholes up north. As well as the fans input into those games.

I am with you on this one. Ona head-head battle I would put Nico ahead of all other PG.  I love the sound of 16-2. Can you fantasize: 18-0!!!!!
