Red/Blue game recap, Blue dominates Red 46-32 as DD shines

Devonaire Doutrive led all scorers with 15 points in helping the Blue team to a 46-32 win over the Red squad, this coming after the sophomore guard won the pregame dunk contest.

Blue teammate Stone Gettings had 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds, while Max Hazzard led the Red squad with 11 points including three three-pointers.

Among the freshmen, Nico Mannion had nine points (on 2-of-7 shooting) with three assists, Christian Koloko had eight, Josh Green had seven and Zeke Nnaji went scoreless...

The game was pretty sloppy last night. Dribbling off feet, passing into traffic and ugly missed.

Iím not worried because itís way too early in the season to have any expectations. This game shouldnít occur until the season is about to start, but I understand that we have to compete with the ďLate NightsĒ, etc.

Doutrive looked good.  I donít think heíll average double digit minutes during the season because heís way down the depth chart but heíll get more time at SG than he did last season.

Koloko was my favorite surprise. I think he outplayed our other front court guys and showed his true athleticism at 7í0Ē.

DD looked solid with the ball, hoping to see him on the court more.  Smith continues to jack up 3's.  Overall a decent crowd but quite frankly not a normal basketball crowd.  Hope we see some advancement from our potential recruits.  Miller even talked about those who may be thinking about coming to Arizona and what a great atmosphere we have for basketball.  Go Cats.

DD took the Sophomore leap. Nico, DD, and Green will be tough for opposing teams to matchup with. Loved Kolokoís size and mobility, heís not a stiff. Smith is the exact same player he was last year. Not gonna judge Zeke too harshly but last night was real ugly from the dunk contest to making middle school mistakes on both ends. Lee and Gettings both look solid, if nothing else I doubt our bigs get pushed around like they did last year.

@KC is Miller doesnít give DD 10 minutes a game Iím gonna officially jump on Liquidatedís bandwagon lololol

I gotta say I agree with PB. If Devonaire only gets like 8 minutes a game and Dylan Smith plays like 20 mpg I am going to lose my mind

I was expecting DD to look good based on CSMs presser the other day. I was expecting a lot more out of Zeke but I won't judge him after one game. You can see the potential there. I liked the way Hazzards shot looked even though it didn't always go in. Gettings was solid and Koloko surprised me the most. If we could put a no shooting/ only defense rule on Dylan Smith that would be great.

Koloko is a lot more skilled than I anticipated his fluidity, handle, and mid-range really impressed, we are going to be in good hands next year. Nico's shot wasn't falling but man he was exciting to watch that pass he threw to Hazzard was a thing of beauty and his size and length were hard to ignore. Another guy that looked good was Max I wasn't expecting much from him but man he's going to be deadly from behind the arc with that quick and smooth release of his. And of course Doutrive looks like a potential stud should be a starter. Zeke looked nervous out there, hopefully he settles down we are going to need him. Stone, and Josh Green played the way I expected and Dylan and Ira looked the same. And of course it's way to early but Brown looks like a bust hopefully he makes the most out his redshirt.

Iíd love to see DD earn more minutes over Smith.

The Red/Blue game isnít the best platform to measure the progress of the players. Doutrive will have a role with this team in the future, but I think he still needs some more time before playing significant minutes.

Fortunately for DD, we donít have many other options in the backcourt because B-Will and Barcello arenít around.

Although the offense was sloppy, the defense was impressive. Whoever plays the best D on the wing deserves the most minutes. We have plenty of scorers.

I hear ya but man it sure seems like every time he player last year he had a knack for making the right play. He is a great athlete, I do wish Miller had a little longer leash for the young guys.

Finally watched Millers presser after the game and super interested to hear him say that at this point Devonaire is gearing up to be the backup PG, getting the minutes there when Nico is resting.
