To me, it feels as if Vitale just likes stirring the pot and pushing people's buttons.  When posts those kind of comments, is he getting a lot of clicks and are people talking about him?  good or bad but they talking about him.  He even said it in one of his latest posts about how certian fan bases get all riled up.  The best thing to do as an AZ fan base is probably to ignore and not click/respond to anymore of his posts.  Most people seems to know he's senile & irrelevant already.

To assume that the rest of college basketball isn't doing this is ridiculous.  Every D-1 program in the country either a) deserves punishment OR b) should be relieved of responsibility...but forced to follow NEW strict guidelines after the FBI probe is completed.

Everybody knows at least one person in their life that "stretched" NCAA rules.  Hell, I even had a boss that played Safety for Dennis Erickson at IDAHO...and "worked" a fake job.  If this has occurred for 30 years at the small schools...it's the NCAA's fault for letting this get out of hand.

Arizona should NOT be the "example".  Miller obviously broke the rules & deserves attention/punishment when (not "if") he is proven guilty.

Since there isn't a shred of publicly-announced evidence that Arizona and its associates broke the law/rules, ESPN needs to stop attacking us...and start pointing the fingers at the programs that regularly rub Dukie V's bald head for luck.

As far as Dukie V is concerned...he absolutely has a love and passion for the game.  I don't know that he's ever shared a single comment that educated anybody about basketball during an in-game call.  He's a gimmick...just like Bill Walton.  They're pure entertainment if you want to add the word "baby" after every line...or if you want to tell stories about Linda Ronstadt (rather than focusing on basketball).  The guy dug himself into a hole by defending other ESPN writers when they took a bad lead...and they'll eventually pay for it.

You have to wonder what his motivations are. The guy is effectively retired and he always focused on the positive, and addressed the negative in a sober and helpful way and arguably did more for college BB than anyone in his generation. His enthusiasm and knowledge for and of the game could not have ever been questioned. Yes, he was annoying to listen to call Duke games... BUT THEN...WTF happened? He now seems petty and vengeful. Angry and obdurate. To keep harping on the negative and being defensive...he is not helping, he is not solving anything and he, apparently, does not know when to be quiet.  Very sad that the last vestiges of College Hoops heyday are quickly disappearing.

As the new guy here, I have to warn you, I am no longer a fan Sean Miller. So here is the manifesto - submitted respectfully for your (dis)approval.

I loved Miller's recruiting. I hate the mid-1980's mid-major ideas of defense and the consistent coaching of Final Four talent to sweet 16 losses.  You can be mad at the loud mouth guy on twitter...but the REAL problem, the REAL issue, is 100% Arizona and Miller. We have no leg to stand on - our (read: Miller's) corruption, cheating and silence makes it impossible to refute a story like Schlabach's, even if it is completely untrue (I believe it is untrue, although, again, there is no actual resolution). Everyone in the country who is not an Arizona fan thinks AZ Basketball is dirty, I have travelled extensively and it is not pretty. DECADES without any major NCAA violations, demonstrably one of the cleanest programs in the NCAA history - all thrown out the window. Multiple P.E.D. problems with the same (high profile) idiot player.  Miller knew about Book and should have been fired OR he did not know what was happening in his own program and...should have been fired. And the last remaining 'clean coach' was secretly buying plane tickets for players to what...help reinforce our innocence in other matters?

The program was/maybe still is out of control. Then, we just stayed silent - way to look innocent, dummies. If we're going to cheat, then we should at least win, but apparently we cheated all so we could use world class athletes to run a defense designed for high school girls in the 1970's. Sue Schlabach, Fire Miller, right the ship - but we left everything just hanging in limbo...no answers, no proof, no resolution.

My anger is not at Vitale, it is at the AD's office and Miller. They have made Arizona into an indefensible pariah. We deserve it. Plain and simple, we brought this on ourselves and we have not raised a finger to refute any of it in a meaningful way. "What about Louisville?!" is a non-sequitur argument at best.

I like your take and agree with a lot of it. I don't want Miller's head at this time, there's just too many unknowns. He could honestly have been trying to run the cleanest program possible and he could be completely dirty, none of this is known as of yet. The silence from the University is deafening though, there are times to keep your mouth shut during legal proceedings, this isn't one of them.

Completely agree about where he is now, but do not agree about him or Walton being just gimmicks. Both have immense knowledge and experience and neither were cookie cutter, pedantic commentators...I can take a game or two every year from each, but thats about it.

I certainly agree also that all of College hoops is an issue, but AZ can only control AZ...need to make sure our house is in order, never mind what anyone else is doing. I do think there are meaningless, minor things (plane tickets that were paid back in a matter of days) and major things (Book) and that the hammer should come down on the major stuff for everyone, no matter what it takes. Seems like the minor stuff is too easy for the NCAA and they blow all sorts of stuff up (Ohio State Football that traded autographs for haircuts, for example), where as the big stuff like players on boats with hookers and cocaine at Miami or Reggie Bush at USC go completely unpunished or under punished.

Thats what is so frustrating to me - my perception was that Miller was a great person and would not have risked or tolerated any B.S. - the Book thing just broke my heart, but then the other 'little' stuff seems worse (Trier, etc..).

And I wonder about the PR strategy...what are they thinking, why the silence?

oh it's 100% what the Universities legal council is advising. I just have to assume they are some older out of touch law firm that has no idea how bad public perception is spiraling out of control.

I still get pumped up when listening to MIller's tone in the video from the above link. To UA's credit, they allowed Miller to firmly reiterate (indirectly to ESPN) that the initial claims were not correct.

Thereafter...I'm pretty sure they're waiting for everything to "come out" before saying anything publicly.

When a high level 5* recruit is willing to attend the UofA, on a Basketball scholarship, the same year the penalties could be enforced that should speak for itself. These caliber of players due their due diligence and know the landscape of college basketball much better then you and I; if the UofA is in any real danger of sever sanctions, they would know and stay away. Current, past, and future players all know each other and talk. As for Coach Miller I personally am not the biggest fan of his ability to coach a top tier program, like the UofA. Coach Miller is a great system coach, which lends itself to long term development and is built on the foundation of seasoned, experienced upperclassman. (JMO) This isn't a bad thing, but you have to recruit to your needs and stick to the system or evolve. Fingers crossed that he makes these changes. Point Guard play has been issue for the UofA as well, but hopefully this years team and next years team should be sound. Bear Down everyone!

I honestly believe espn is a failing company, see all the firings and dismissal's the past 3-5 years.  They are trying to stay above water and one of those tactics is publicity.  I just don't follow or listen to anything espn, unless it's brought up here, of course.   ;D

So you think we landed the two recent 5 stars by cheating? If that is the case than Miller and these recruits are mentally retarded to try and pull that at this time.  I think not.
