You have to wonder what his motivations are. The guy is effectively retired and he always focused on the positive, and addressed the negative in a sober and helpful way and arguably did more for college BB than anyone in his generation. His enthusiasm and knowledge for and of the game could not have ever been questioned. Yes, he was annoying to listen to call Duke games... BUT THEN...WTF happened? He now seems petty and vengeful. Angry and obdurate. To keep harping on the negative and being defensive...he is not helping, he is not solving anything and he, apparently, does not know when to be quiet. Very sad that the last vestiges of College Hoops heyday are quickly disappearing.
As the new guy here, I have to warn you, I am no longer a fan Sean Miller. So here is the manifesto - submitted respectfully for your (dis)approval.
I loved Miller's recruiting. I hate the mid-1980's mid-major ideas of defense and the consistent coaching of Final Four talent to sweet 16 losses. You can be mad at the loud mouth guy on twitter...but the REAL problem, the REAL issue, is 100% Arizona and Miller. We have no leg to stand on - our (read: Miller's) corruption, cheating and silence makes it impossible to refute a story like Schlabach's, even if it is completely untrue (I believe it is untrue, although, again, there is no actual resolution). Everyone in the country who is not an Arizona fan thinks AZ Basketball is dirty, I have travelled extensively and it is not pretty. DECADES without any major NCAA violations, demonstrably one of the cleanest programs in the NCAA history - all thrown out the window. Multiple P.E.D. problems with the same (high profile) idiot player. Miller knew about Book and should have been fired OR he did not know what was happening in his own program and...should have been fired. And the last remaining 'clean coach' was secretly buying plane tickets for players to what...help reinforce our innocence in other matters?
The program was/maybe still is out of control. Then, we just stayed silent - way to look innocent, dummies. If we're going to cheat, then we should at least win, but apparently we cheated all so we could use world class athletes to run a defense designed for high school girls in the 1970's. Sue Schlabach, Fire Miller, right the ship - but we left everything just hanging in limbo...no answers, no proof, no resolution.
My anger is not at Vitale, it is at the AD's office and Miller. They have made Arizona into an indefensible pariah. We deserve it. Plain and simple, we brought this on ourselves and we have not raised a finger to refute any of it in a meaningful way. "What about Louisville?!" is a non-sequitur argument at best.
