Better for Arizona if Baylor or Washington wins tonight?
« on: November 08, 2019, 09:25:16 AM »
Is it better for Arizona if Baylor or Washington wins tonight? I was thinking about it and Baylor winning makes our game on the road against them much tougher and better for NET, yet Baylor winning also makes the Pac 12 look bad. Thoughts??

Better for us if every PAC11 team wins - always. We especially need high profile OOC wins this year.

If we beat Baylor, it would add a nice OOC road win...but a UW would be much better because we play the Huskies (at least) twice this year, so we want their win total to be as high as possible.

On another note, I want Colorado to embarrass Hurley in the late matchup.

I don't care in the least if any Pac team wins. Why should we need to rely on this conf to make us look good? Do the Zags worry how the rest of the WCC does?

Arizona just has to worry about Arizona.

this

don't care who wins or loses, doesn't matter who we get in the tournament, self-sufficient and unconcerned about who we play next or what our rank is, do not fear a fork, none of it

let them worry about us, let us focus on us

I get what your saying but Arizona has to hope that all of its opponents do well and play tough competition before March. The Ayton team played cupcakes in the Pac all season and got blown out first round, so I disagree and the Pac has to do very good in non-con.

Seeding is also a huge deal.  If the Pac-12 doesn't get any respect because we struggle in Non-Con play, everybody suffers in March.

I could care less whether USC/Oregon/Colorado/UW makes the tourney.  I just want them to beat everybody outside of our league so Arizona has the best chance to play near home as the highest seed.

assu is the exception because I'd sacrifice a little bit of our success to watch them continue on the path of destruction.  They've only won ONE "round of 64" game since the '03-'04 season...that's comforting to me.

I think you are totally missing the point of why there are conferences to begin with. Yes, in fact, Gonzaga DOES worry about the rest of the WCC because they suffer in seedings when the conference is not good and they are helped when the conference is better.

Also, wanting Washington to win does not detract in any way from a focus on AZ...I would remind you that AZ's best years were when UCLA was winning a championship and going to final fours and Stanford was an elite program and the conference was over flowing with Jason Kidd, Gary Payton and Harold Miner type players...

Folks, there isn't one set formula for getting to March and making a deep run.  You don't necessarily have to play in a tough conference.  You don't even necessarily have to play a tough schedule.  You do have to be playing your best ball in March.

I think Deb has it right:  first and foremost, we worry about our own team.  That includes wins and staying healthy.  If the Pac-12 bounces back and/or our non-conference schedule ends up looking better at the end of the year than it does already then its icing on the cake.

The best thing for our seeding is if Baylor wins. @Baylor would likely be the strongest win on our resume, so we want them to win as much as possible for that resume-making win.

UW losing to Baylor isn't going to bring the conference down, and UW winning isn't going to change the national perception of the conference.

Baylor winning is what's most advantageous to us.
