Arizona Vs Oregon St discussion thread 2/22/2018 at 7pm on FS1

Arizona will be facing the beavers on Thursday night in Corvallis. OSU is coming off a loss to USC, but they're dangerous & have beaten both UCLA & Washington. The Wildcats will have to be ready & be sure not have a let down game after beating they're in state rivals the sun devils. Let's talk about the CATS VS the Beavers & how you think this match-up will go down.

I am hoping we don't get caught up in the 3PT game this week.
We beat ASSU by going inside, and I say this every week, and the only time we lose is when we don't go inside, or they force us outside with a good zone defense.

That 2-3 zone that OSU runs does not scare me, their players are good, but their team should be a lot better.
The Thompson boys and Tinkle should have OSU as a serious threat in the PAC, and I haven't even mentioned Eubanks yet.
Continue to work the ball inside, let Ayton/Ristic do their thing, when the time comes to let it rain, LET IT RAIN from deep and control the glass.

We win this game, go up 12-3 in the conference and still controlling our own fate.
The magic number to share the PAC-12 title is three, four and we win outright.
Beat OSU, then move on to Oregon; one game at a time..

I agree go inside to the bigs.  And PLAY DEFENSE.  Maybe every once in a while bring the bigs out to set screens and then whichever one is open shoot the 3, while the guards all go for the rebounds.  They wouldn't expect that.  I really like throwing it in to Ayton and having him catch it and throw it right back out for the perimeter shot also.  That one hander he does.  Freaks them out because they just turned to go after him and the ball is already back out on the perimeter.

Agreed. Go inside early and often. Against their zone I would like to see the perimeter guys stay spaced on the outside, and for Ristic to be the one to get the ball at the free throw line. Not only is Ristic money from there he is also a good passer and tall enough to see over the defense and deliver the ball DEEP into the teeth of their zone to Ayton. If Ayton can get a decent pass ( we might be one of the worst post entry passing teams in the country lol) 5 ft from the basket it should be an and one or a trip to the ft line almost every time. OSU has nobody who can match Deandre on the block. Other than that I hope to see us crash the offensive boards hard every time like we did in the 2nd half of ASU, that was glorious. Teams are smaller, less athletic, AND playing zone means we need to make them pay on the boards.

We talk a lot about works by it inside out but it never really seems to happen like it should. We go in spurts only. If we could actually build a game around it, that would be glorious. I donít think this game should be much of a challenge so would like to see them really work on pounding it inside. Good entry passes, getting their bigs in foul trouble and then keep at them. Rotate to open spots off the ball to keep OSU honest. Maybe even get some reps in with Dusan feeding Ayton

This game SHOULD be a warm-up for our game against Oregon on the 24th.
That game (on paper) appears to be our toughest game left on our schedule.
Finish the Oregon schools, and head back home to play Cal and Stanford for what SHOULD be our deciding game to clinch the PAC-12 title outright..

We control our own destiny, and we are fortunate that we sit in first place. We could easily be in second or third place with our inconsistency. So I hope we go out and play with a purpose for a full 40 minutes from here on out. These Oregon schools cannot be taken for granted what so ever, as they will have the home court advantage. So BTFD!

Allonzo Trier was ruled ineligible die to a drug test that showed trace amounts of a steroid that was found in his system. UofA is appealing and hopefull he'll be reinstated as they believe it's a result of the steroid remaining in his system from last year

Trier just walked onto the court at Gill Coliseum but he's not shooting with his teammates. Sitting with support staff.
