Arizona Vs Buffalo discussion thread 3/15/2018 at 6:40pm on CBS

The Arizona Wildcats were given a 4 seed in the South region & will face off against a very tough Buffalo Bulls team. The Wildcats finished the season 27-7 & won the PAC-12 tournament. They will now head to Idaho for a first round match-up against a not so familiar foe. This will mark the first ever meeting between Buffalo and Arizona. It will also be just the third Pac-12 school that UB has ever faced. The Bulls have made the big dance for the third time in four years & finished 26-8 on the season, setting a new school record for wins. The Buffalo-Arizona winner will face the winner of the game between #5 Kentucky and #12 Davidson on Saturday. Let's talk about how you think the CATS will do in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

I don't know anything about Buffalo, so I can't say anything about their strengths...weaknesses, etc.  All I can say is I hope the Wildcats continue to improve on the defensive end and beat Buffalo.

Going by the numbers and what analysts have been saying Buffalo plays with pace and isn’t afraid to shoot it from deep. Their biggest problem can be summed up by Pat Forde, “ Who is guarding Deandre Ayton?” Forde and the other yahoo sports analysts said they like Buffalo but just not in this matchup. As long as Deandre stays out of foul trouble I think we should bully our way to the 2nd round.

With hardly any knowledge of how Buffalo plays, we can’t make the mistake of underestimating anybody. One game at a time, and keep making progress on defensive end.

They play some what like ASU, fast and faster. If their 3's are falling could be fun.  But seriously, we should win without too much drama.  ;)

I read that their best win was vs #113 team. No matter who they are, I think we get this one. Keeping up the momentum of Pac-12 tournament should do it.

Hey guys, I finally found the new site...great timing! I was a former member of the HOF at PGU and I live in Buffalo, went to the University at Buffalo AND I am a season ticket holder for the team.

Unlike most tournament underdogs, this team shoots the 3 during the regular season.

They have two bigger guys for the paint, their best post player (Nick Perkins) comes off the bench.

Their starting PG is from Missouri (Wes Clark) and has joined the team for his senior season halfway through the year. He played for UB’s head coach in high school.

CJ Massinburg is a player from Texas who had a quiet MAC tournament but if he gets hot, he can be dangerous. He was top in the nation for rebounds for guards under 6’4”

Jeremy Harris was one of the top Juco transfers last season and somehow picked UB. He is a lefty shooter that has been very consistent. If he’s hot, its going to be a close game.

They don’t have a go-to player, but any of the guys above have gone 20+ points per game.

They have two very strong defensive guards in Davonta Jordan (All-MAC defensive team, fast and creative) and Dontay Caruthers (MAC Def POY last year).

I think their guard centric lineup will make this game a lot closer than a lot of people think but I still think Arizona will finish strong.

Both teams were poorly seeded (lowest combined RPI matchup in the tournament) and have something to prove. They don’t have an answer for Ayton or Ristic but they have played other teams in the MAC that primarily revolve around their center and they were able to keep their scoring down.

Go UB, go Arizona for the rest of the tournament!
