Without going down the rabbit hole with some other forum friends,

I'm not surprised by this, but the rankings are so close in votes that all of them are coin flips. If there has to be a ranking, than I'd rather it show this type of parity. It's the truth. There is no clear dominant team going into the season. It's my opinion, Sean Miller holds an edge with his coaching versatility and elite superstar back court. We will see if we can defend. That will be the kicker.

UW has program stability?  They return one player that scored at least 3 PPG last year.

Oregon consistently has lesser talent because their coach brought in miserable personalities that didn’t want to play for him. The constant clown carousel of Oregon’s troubled roster shouldn’t be a discredit to Miller’s top tier recruiting...event if Altman “ate his lunch” by going 10-8 (or whatever the slight lead is).

Stability = no coaches fired, FBI investigations, trials, PED's, self-reported violations, coaches leaving their team during a road trip, academic fraud, etc, etc, etc...

There is always player turnover, but he has a really nice mix of sophomores with great potential and superstar freshmen... and he has proven he can coach.

Altman at Kansas State, Creighton and Oregon has always been a little shady... I won't defend him on that ground, but the three players dismissed for rape a few years ago (who played in the NCAA tournament during the investigation) were ultimately found (in an actual court of law) not guilty and awarded a settlement from Phil Knight University and totally exonerated of all charges.

Not who you are talking about not wanting to play for him. I'm pretty sure every talented felon in America has their eye on Oregon.

The losses to Oregon have ben inexcusable for A program like AZ is supposed to be. 3 times we lost to them when ranked in the top 5 and only one of those times were they ranked. One of those was at Mckale. Don't tell me that upset losses happen - I know they do, but NOT 52% of the time - that is not the definition of 'upset' - that is the definition of hierarchy.

Sorry...Altman is 9-8 against the Cats (not 10-8) since arriving in Eugene.

Both coaches have 3 Pac-12 tournament championships...and Miller won 3 over the past 5 years.

Miller has been here 1 year longer and inherited a blue blood program,  Altman inherited the very definition of cellar dweller. Oregon totally sucked for decades.

Can you imagine writing that about Lute Olson and any other coach?

It is shameful.

This is a great point - they are all very close.

Never in anyones wildest dreams would anyone call Miller 'versatile'. He is literally the most antithetical one an be to 'versatility'. I know that I rip on him constantly about everything, but even his most ardent supporters would not call him versatile. This is a guy who almost never deviates from the pack-line (a 50 year old idea developed for high school girls and yes Bennett won with a speed up version it, but he is the only one who ever has). Over a ten year period, he used Derrick Williams, Zeus and Ayton in the exact same way, despite each having a unique set of talents. He wasted NBA talents Markannen and Simmons precisely because he was not versatile and made no adjustments for the individual players - which was probably Lute's single greatest strength.

I didn't assume that recruits strayed away from Eugene; I was referencing the 11 kids that transferred out of the program over the past 6 years.  There is absolutely no stability because the Oregon program is a temporary resort for kids that want Nike swag (or didn't get recruited by the big boys).

FWIW, Oregon wasn't ranked at all during 3 of Altman's seasons (including last year)...so it's hard to compare how well they perform with well-respected teams.  In 2017-18, they split with Miller while both teams were in the Top-10.  Otherwise, Altman's Top 25 teams have lost to unranked schools like Boise, UNLV, Cal, Stanford, Georgetown, Baylor, Colorado, Iowa, Texas Southern, Houston, assu, UCLA and Utah.

If Miller lost to TSU while the Cats were ranked, we'd hear about it for years.  Since nobody cares about Oregon round-ball (outside of Phil Knight), it isn't a big deal: https://tsusports.com/news/2018/11/27/mens-basketball-texas-southern-basketball-knocks-off-18-oregon-89-84.aspx

Miller inherited a black-eye program in APRIL, which consisted of Kyle Fogg, Jamelle Horne, Alex Jacobson, Brendan Lavender and a Nic Wise that took serious convincing to stay in Tucson.

The prior squad (led by Pennell) was 9-10 in Pac-10 play, including a 1st round conference tourney loss to our rivals.

The fans weren't optimistic about Miller's hire, yet he stocked the bare cupboard and was a 3-pointer away from the Final Four within a 23-month period.  Pretty fantastic recruiting/coaching job if you ask me.

I wonder if you have any new thoughts about Sean Miller, coaching adjustments and/or the pack line D.  If not maybe we can ban any posts of yours with those phrases.  After the 1000th time I've read the same thing in any post about AZ basketball it gets a little old.  Your welcome to your opinion, but do you have to state the same thing in every single post.  You really have gotten your point across.  Dead horses and such.

No way in hell I am putting Colorado over Arizona.
Oregon and even Washington I can understand because those two are in my “contenders” section; but not Colorado.

As always, we are not a blue blood program. We are a West Coast Powerhouse. There is a difference. Sean Miller brought UofA from obscurity back to where we are. We hit a crossroads like UConn and instead of becoming irrelevant for good, we pressed forward and have the 6th best coach in the game and with time on his side being only 50 years old.

Altman has some pac12 wins in AZ bad showing years. Arizona beat Oregon both times they met in the finals for championships. As a 3 seed you are expected to be able to make the Final 4 in potential. Nothing abnormal there not exactly a VCU run. Oregon also made an elite 8 as a 1 seed. That should be considered a failure since you put 3 elite 8's in the category of failure for Miller.

The only team I would accept ahead of arizona is the ducks  an I still think arizona will win pac this year.   I could see Colorado 5th Washington 3 or 4   I think usc  will be top 3 or for because od talent.
