Tate Starting: 5-4 under Rich Rod, 8-10 under Sumlin/Mazzone
« on: October 20, 2019, 10:52:41 AM »
2017  he was 5-4 as true frosh, missed the OOC cupcakes, had far less talent, a horrible defense and set records, was a Heisman candidate.
2018-2019 (so far) 8 -10 (thanks TJ74), Heisman hopes dashed, WAAAY more talent, vastly improved defense, includes the OOC cupcakes.

4 of those wins were in October 2017, then he became less effective.

The team has quit on Sumlin. Tate is no longer focused on anything other than preparing for the combine. This is a redundant conversation. I am waiting to hear back about the financials necessary to buy Sumlin out so I can start dealing with this head on.

In 2019, Tate is 3-3 against programs whose combined record is 22-21.
In 2018, Tate was 5-5 against programs whose combined record was 62-63 (SUU and OSU had double-digit losses).
In 2017, Tate was 5-4 against programs whose combined record was 58-57.

I looked at the games where he outplayed the other Arizona QB(s).  There were a few that Tate started, but didn't finish (and vice versa).

Under BOTH coaches, Arizona has been a .500 program against .500 competition.  The team should have won more games last season.

Regardless, I'm hoping that Gunnell would stick around if/when the staff is fired within the next couple seasons.  My assumption is that another sub-par record next year would be enough for Heeke to move on.  At that point, Grant would have 2 years of eligibility and a nice corps of surrounding players to help him succeed.

Why does this matter? I mean really why does this matter?

If i was going to argue this, I would say How did we go from RR turning Tate into a superstar QB that was about to Put UA on the Map for Greatness to Sumlin were he just fucking it all up in two year with Tate.

umm..because Arizona would have a Heisman trophy winner and be PAC12 champions and maybe spot in the play offs. Is that enough 'matter' for you?
