The success of the program depends on the fan support.

What fan support? That been lacking since 2012. Plus UA stadium is what over 50K capacity and Can't muster a full house in every game.

Without people in the stands, our coaching staff canít recruit kids because itís blstsntly obvious when the bleachers are empty.

RR didnt have that problem on convincing recruits to UA despite Low attendance and no body giving a damn to stay until the end of the game.

I think Sumlin has done an awful job, but Iíll support the team, assuming our staff isnít disrespectful to the players, alumni, etc.

I think that a complete opposite.

I hope this decision doesnít send Arizona football into an abyss.

It's probably a moot point, but I wonder if it would've been better to let KS go and let the new guy bring in his own staff?  This way we'd start the "rebuild" a year earlier, and get a new HC, DC, OC, etc. and everyone's happy, hopefully.  Of course if only it were that easy.  I wonder if this is a one year gig, and a new OC and DC will only be a short-term thing.  We'd be starting all over a year from now.  Plus, who would want to come here to work for a short-timer?

We had our chance a couple years ago. We made a mistake that the program will likely Never recover from. We may have one good year here and there in the [far] distant future, but as a program we are back in the stone age. As long as we are in the Pac12 South there is a puncher's chance at best, but to count a program like USC being down forever is foolish. At some point soon there will be a dominant force in our division. Maybe we are out of the Pac12 by then (to those who report the potential move to the Big12 looming). Even then, if we move to the Big12 we are 100% dead in the water considering we have 0 momentum from any perspective.

I would scrap the football program at least from a scholarship perspective and give the money, resources, and focus back to academics. If some kids want to come to UofA and play football they can on their own merit and tuition/student loan as far as I'm concerned at this point.

I forgot to add that retaining Sumlin (FOR NOW) is largely in part to Heeke's extension. He still needs a scapegoat. Sumlin fired many of his "shields". He will continue to do that. But Sumlin is Heeke's last "excuse". I personally believe this is PR (FOR NOW) until Sumlin can get cornered into a "mutual parting of ways". This may come sooner than people think at this point. and I will not be surprised if this happens before kickoff next season or early into the season at that.

If everybody had your attitude towards the program, we would end up with a program like assu...a school that ranks in the Top-3 in student population, but still doesn't fill the stands unless they're currently playing "above average football".

Although you assume Arizona fans don't show up, we averaged 45,000+ fans per game in 2018...which is still above Cal, OSU, Stanford and Wazzu.  We were pretty much tied with Colorado and Utah (because the Utes stadium is pretty small).

RichRod DID have issues with recruiting at a high level.  I personally love the kids that he brought in.  They were perfect for our system & they worked hard in order to succeed...but we were just another average Power 5 school when it came to the rankings.  On average, 24/7 had us ranked during RichRod's era as the 42nd best class.  We were often below Kansas & Wazzu (if that says anything).  Regardless, I don't care about the rankings.

You think the complete opposite about supporting the team?  So you'd only back Arizona if the staff was disrespectful to the players...and you only care about winning?  Seems like an odd perspective, but you may have alternative motives.

Sumlin has certainly underachieved, but to lay this all at his feet is stupid. We are a few missed kicks, some poor decisions by Tate, and lousy execution from other players away from beating ASU back to back.

Itís not a glowing review of Sumlin and he should be on the hot seat going forward, but acting as if itís 100% on him is foolish.

That said, the real issue with UA athletics is Heeke. He should be canned immediately.
WOW dude...that is the problem... "A FEW" of everything adds up over time...thus are shitty record. Stop making excuses..Sumlin is CAROUSE!!!!

Re: KCCat --> I would like to say something regarding attendance from the perspective of a former student during the time I was there.

1) It was a requirement to buy season tickets to football to get into the lottery to have a chance for basketball tickets (back then). I don't know what the deal is now, but everyone wanted those basketball tickets while I was there so the tickets were purchased regardless of attendance.

2) We couldn't drink. Dry campus. Not sure if its still that way. Not as fun to watch live without a cold one.

3) From a student perspective, most games being on a Saturday night take away from the main "party night" of the weekend. The games start too late and end too late in that respect. It's always going to be hard to get a packed Zoo section.

A better program, team, and game times would help all of the above be a success, but I don't know if it's really think UofA/UARIZONA or ASU will ever have a high focus on in-person attendance considering students do comprise a good amount of seats/space. However, this doesn't mean the tickets aren't sold as ransom.

Same situation as when I attended. The ZonaZoo pass put us in the lottery for basketball tix. Fortunately, I played drums st most events, so I had floor seats to any sporting event.

The kids donít have to show up. I think the student section should shrink and the band should slide closer to midfield in order to ensure that fans stick around behind the bench.

Season ticket prices canít drop because weíre already among the cheapest in college football but if the individual seats become more affordable, the Tucson community would come to more games.  I paid a lot for my family to attend games and sit in the new end zone.

I understand why college kids leave early. I just wish that the early departures didnít show up in the first place. With 45,000 students, we should be able to fill 7,500 seats for 4 quarters!
